"Ninety-eight percent of the adults in this country are decent, hard-working, honest Americans. It's the other lousy two percent that get all the publicity. But then we elected them."
"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."

This will gratify some people and astonish the rest."

Dear Member
SITREP
(Situation Report)
by Bob Anderson
Gary Hubbell, of the
Aspen Times Weekly wrote
an article he entitled In Election 2008, Don't Forget Angry White Man. I have included that article for you
below. I'm using this as my SITREP
article for this issue of the newsletter because I feel very confident that
Angry White Men will be forgotten during and after this election.
I wish I could say
that should Angry White Men stand up and voice their anger something meaningful
would come from it but too often - especially in the recent past I have seen
that happen and nothing came from it. Take the Illegal
Immigration situation for example, not in my memory has there been such a cry
for change that was so completely and totally ignored. SITREP - SNAFU, and if you don't know what that means, ask a veteran. Now Gary's article: "There is a great amount of interest in this year's presidential
elections, as everybody seems to recognize that our next president has to be a
lot better than George Bush. The Democrats are riding high with two
groundbreaking candidates - a woman and an African-American - while the
conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party's nod to a
quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain.
Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of
special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to
children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical Christians.
There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group
that will decide the election: the Angry White Man. The Angry White Man comes
from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all
geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep
South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard.
His common traits are that he isn't looking for anything from
anyone - just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing
field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several
people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard.
The victim hood syndrome buzzwords - "disenfranchised,"
"marginalized" and "voiceless" - don't resonate with him. "Press 'one' for
English" is a curse-word to him. He's used to picking up the tab, whether it's
the company Christmas party, three sets of braces and three college educations
or a beautiful wedding.
He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally,
not as a "living document" open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges
who have never worked an honest day in their lives.
The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he's willing to pick
up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life
to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone
who needs killing really doesn't bother him. The Angry White Man is not a
metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane
Katrina - he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to
rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police
officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter.
His last name and religion don't matter. His background might
be Italian, English, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, or Russian, and he might
have Cherokee, Mexican, or Puerto Rican mixed in, but he considers himself a
white American.
He's a man's man, the kind of guy who likes to play poker,
watch football, hunt white-tailed deer, call turkeys, play golf, spend a few
bucks at a strip club once in a blue moon, change his own oil and build things.
He coaches baseball, soccer and football teams and doesn't ask for a penny.
He's the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house with a couple of
friends, drill an oil well, weld a new bumper for his truck, design a factory
and publish books. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to
the power plant on time so that you keep the lights on and never know what it
took to flip that light switch.
Women either love him or hate him, but they know he's a man,
not a dishrag. If they're looking for someone to walk all over, they've got the
wrong guy. He stands up straight, opens doors for women and says "Yes, sir" and
"No, ma'am."
He might be a Republican and he might be a Democrat; he might
be a Libertarian or a Green. He knows that his wife is more emotional than
rational, and he guides the family in a rational manner.
He's not a racist, but he is annoyed and disappointed when
people of certain backgrounds exhibit behavior that typifies the worst stereotypes
of their race. He's willing to give everybody a fair chance if they work hard,
play by the rules and learn English.
Most important, the Angry White Man is pissed off. When his
job site becomes flooded with illegal workers who don't pay taxes and his wages
drop like a stone, he gets righteously angry. When his job gets shipped
overseas, and he has to speak to some incomprehensible idiot in India for tech
support, he simmers. When Al Sharpton comes on TV, leading some rally for
reparations for slavery or some such nonsense, he bites his tongue and he
remembers. When a child gets charged with carrying a concealed weapon for
mistakenly bringing a penknife to school, he takes note of who the local idiots
are in education and law enforcement.
He also votes, and the Angry White Man loathes Hillary
Clinton. Her voice reminds him of a shovel scraping a rock. He recoils at the
mere sight of her on television. Her very image disgusts him, and he cannot
fathom why anyone would want her as their leader. It's not that she is a woman.
It's that she is who she is. It's the liberal victim groups she panders to, the
"poor me" attitude that she represents, her inability to give a straight answer
to an honest question, his tax dollars that she wants to give to people who refuse
to do anything for themselves.
There are many millions of Angry White Men. Four
million Angry White Men are members of the National Rifle Association, and all
of them will vote against Hillary Clinton, just as the great majority of them
voted for George Bush. He hopes that she
will be the Democratic nominee for president in 2008, and he will make sure
that she gets beaten like a drum."

My friends, I just received this, and since I could not say it as well, thought I would pass it on as written. I believe we will never regain control of our government without strict term limits. I am often asked, how this can be done. Well, nothing happens in our governmant without large numbers of citizens speaking out.
It is time!!!! I received an email recently where someone suggested that term limits are imposed when the people refuse to vote for an incumbent. Maybe that is what it will take. Our country is facing the greatest threat in our lifetime. Our economy is already beginning to react negatively, and this can get worse. Our Congress is stuck at the "Hate Bush" position, and nothing positive has come from them, since the Democrats took control. I feel we must make an all out effort to insure Conservatives retake the House and the Senate at the earlies opportunity. As we elect new members to Congress, one of the pass/fail tests should be whether or not they support term limits. You and I need to work together at beginning a grass root level movement toward voting out the existing members and electing younger, energetic House and Senate Members who accept limited time on the Hill, and actively represent "the people". A GREAT LIST TO CHOOSE FROM ARE OUR VETS RETURNING FROM THE MIDDLE-EAST AND GETTING OUT OF THE MILITARY TO RUN FOR OFFICE. They are smart, and they have been there. They recognise who supported then and who did not. There are a dozen or so, that I know of running for election now, and they are all Conservatives.
Please read the following, and see if it moves you as it did me.

THE 545 PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR AMERICA . . . BESIDE YOURSELF.
by Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does. You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does. You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does. You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of the 300 million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman or a president to do one cotton- picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it.
No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
A CONFIDENCE CONSPIRACY. Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a SPEAKER, who stood up and criticized G.W. BUSH for creating deficits.
The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes.
Who is the speaker of the House? She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow Democrats, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto.
REPLACE THE SCOUNDRELS.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts - of incompetence and irresponsibility.
I can't think of a single domestic problem, from an unfair tax code to defense overruns, that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.
When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair. If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red. If the Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ.
There are no insoluble government problems. Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.
Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exist disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation" or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible. They, and they alone, have the power. They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses - provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees. We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess. |

Some Thoughts About Hillary and What We Can Learn
February 18, 2008
Yes, of course it worked. Some of you were not planning to read this at least now. But I now have your attention. It is truly a cheap marketing trip. I knew that by using Hillary's name in the subject matter line that many would stop and read this blog. Whether you love her or not, everybody knows who she is and has some feelings about Hillary Clinton.
But I am going to disappoint you if you were hoping for a tirade for or against Hillary. Whether Hillary will win the nomination over Barack Obama for the Democratic Party presidential nomination is an open question. I don't know of any political pundit or commentator that got it right in predicting where the presidential nomination processes in both parties would be now; six months ago.
They all have been wrong so far except one. That's me, and I am not a political animal at all. But many of you might remember what I wrote. I said the winner will be the one with the best story, because the best story always wins. Again, you can love him or hate him or leave him, but John McCain has a great story. Mike Huckabee, the 100 pound weight losing, marathon running, guitar playing Governor has a very good story.
Barack Obama has lived and is creating a great "there will be change" story that draws many in to him. Unfortunately Hillary forgot my advice, and does not presently have, nor has she been able to create a great story. That is why she is in trouble today when everyone thought her nomination was a sure thing. You need to be aware of the mistake she made, and how you can avoid some of the same mistakes that might hurt your career.
This is very practical stuff, and of course I am going to draw you in further. If you want to hear the rest of the story about Hillary's resume mistake, you can listen to our five minute blogcast entitled, Hillary and YOU. You can listen to it by clicking .
What a shameless attention-grabbing marketer I am! You're right, now listen to the blogcast and the then come back.
Now what's your story and your offer? Remember the one with the best story wins.

College
author unknown
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth. She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?" She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3 .0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican party." | |

Immingration
by ITC Lee Crowson, USN
Hello Dear Readers,
I hope this finds you all well. I'd like to take a moment to tell you about a friend of mine, not just a friend but a comrade-in-arms in the United States Navy. I won't tell you her name to protect the innocent but I will tell you that she is about to take one of the biggest steps of her life. You see in March she will take the oath that will make her a citizen of the United States of America. It is a very proud moment for her and for those in her life. I personally am very proud of her as we all should be. (Of course considering I trained her it is kind of like watching one of your children grow up and graduate.)
Do you see the relevance here?
She took the proper steps to leave Nicaragua, the country of her birth, and come to this country legally and then spent the time, effort and, yes, money to apply for and earn citizenship. She even serves in the military of her adopted country and within the next year or so will do her rotation to the Middle East. How many natural born citizens can say that? Why do I bring this up? Because all the illegal aliens who cross our border in the dead of night mock the effort she went through. Because the calls for amnesty and for legalizing those who have come here illegally is a slap in the face to her and those like her. When did we become a country that rewards breaking the law? During my time in the military I have served with many fine people who were not born in this country. Some were citizens and some were not but what they had in common was a burning desire to better themselves and to come to a place were they could live the American Dream. Many of them came from places we call the third world where they lived in conditions we couldn't even imagine. Some had to leave members of their families there to come here. Regardless of where they come from they all took the steps to follow the law and they all endeavor to make their contributions to better our society as productive citizens. Quite a few of them are more active in their communities than people who were born there. (You know it's funny but I don't recall any of the immigrants I've known calling themselves Nicaraguan-American or Mexican-American or Filipino-American or even African-American. They all came here to be Americans plain and simple. If they feel so strongly about being just Americans why do we who were born here feel the need to separate ourselves into groups? That is a topic for another article . . .)
I've heard politicians say that we need a guest worker program to provide the labor we need in agriculture and other no and low-skill jobs. Fine, if that's what we need then let's set it up and truck them in. Of course first we need to round up all those here illegally already and send them home so that they can apply to be part of that program. If they want to play they have to go home and stand in line with everyone else rather than getting head of the line privileges just because the snuck in first. Want to give them amnesty? Okay, we'll just send them home rather than putting them in prison for breaking our immigration laws. Once they all get home and apply to come here legally then we have to make sure to track them so that when it is time to go home they go home. No U.S. driver's licenses or I.D. cards, just a guest worker card. No welfare, social security or unemployment but of course they must pay income taxes like everyone else who works here legally. Just for good measure let's make sure to heavily fine those businesses who hire people here illegally or help them to stay after their permit has expired. If it's not good business then most people will stop doing it.
Oh yeah, we also need to stop making babies born in this country citizens automatically with all associated rights and privileges, especially if their parents are here illegally. Of course the children can become citizens immediately when one or both of their parents achieve citizenship legally.
"What about rights?" you say. Well, those who are here illegally have no rights, especially not to public assistance. Welfare, unemployment, Medicare, Medicaid, free public education, Social Security, etc. are for citizens and legal residents who work and pay taxes to support those programs. How can someone who has never paid income taxes be entitled to benefits paid for by those taxes?
Please don't misunderstand my tone, I am all for immigration, legal immigration. The first Crowson to set foot in the New World back in the 1600's was an immigrant. Immigrants bring rich culture, ideas, experiences and many other things that make this "melting pot" a better and more interesting place. Of all my friends I only have one who would not be considered to be descended from immigrants and that's only because he's Navajo and his ancestors were already here when our forebears got here. If it wasn't for immigrants there wouldn't be a United States of America but we are also a nation based on the rule of law, even immigration law.
Thank you for your time and may God richly bless you and your families.
Have some input? Drop me a line at Talk2Lee@usa.com.
Sincerely,
ITC Lee Crowson, USN

Are you a Democrat, Republican or Southerner?
Here is a little test that will help you decide. The answer can be found by posing the following situation:
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.
You are carrying a Glock cal 40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
Democrat's Answer:
* Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
* Does the man look poor or oppressed?
- Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
- Could we run away?
- What does my wife think?
- What about the kids?
- What does the law say about this situation?
- Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
- Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
- Should I call 9-1-1?
- Why is this street so deserted?
- We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
Republican's Answer:
Southerner's Answer:
- BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

The Toby Mug
by Bob Anderson, Chief Master Sergeant, USAFR (Ret)
Possibly one of the greatest movies ever made came out in 1949, it was called "12 o'clock High". It is the story of a World War II hard nosed commander tasked with wiping the 918th Bomb Group into a cohesive fighting unit.
Integral to the story is the character of Major Harvey Stovall, played by the veteran actor Dean Jagger. The story begins after the war with Stovall purchasing a ceramic mug in a shop in London. This mug (called a Toby Mug and identified as either the Highwayman or Robin Hood) had sat on the mantle of the O'Club and Stovall's base during WWII.

Aubry Anne D'Arminio, with the All Movie Guide wrote this review of the movie, "How much can a man give? When the U.S. 8th Army Air Force 918th Bombardment Group is ordered on their fourth harrowing mission in four hard days, Brigadier General Frank Savage (Gregory Peck) demands 'maximum effort.' The pilots and crews are forced to fly lower, to fly farther, and to test themselves -- overstressed and fatigued -- right up until death's door. When their dedicated colonel speaks out in their defense, Savage mercilessly takes over command -- an officer should not sympathize with his men. The general will compel the 918th to stop pitying itself and to hone its morale in the face of danger. Yet, as the men grow colder due to Savage's orders and the missions bring them closer to their crucial German targets, the general learns the practical impossibility of raising the confidence of young men while also sending them to their deaths. He begins to understand that it is the burden of command that makes even the toughest leader sympathetic. Eventually caring for his men above all else, it is Savage who is forced to carry the hardships of 'maximum effort' -- asking himself, 'How much can a man take?'"
In one scene, shortly after the change of command General Frank Savage tells his men, "Well, I can tell you right now what the problem is. I saw it in your faces last night. I can see it there now. You've been looking at a lot of air lately, and you feel you need a rest. In short, you're feeling sorry for yourselves. Now I don't have a lot of patience with this 'What are we fighting for?' stuff. We're in a war, a shooting war. We've got to fight. And some of us have got to die."
I don't remember how old I was when I first saw this movie but it had to have been in my early teens. It stuck with me over the years and its impact grew each time I watched it again. Probably more than any other movie, this one set the direction for my concepts of leadership in the military and the Robin Hood mug for some reason became an icon to me over the years and for years, every time I went to a flea market or antique shop I looked for one like it.
Once my military career began to develop and I found myself in supervisory positions I periodically would run again into 12 o'clock High and would adjust my leadership processes. During my career I found that the Security Police/Security Forces were one of very few career fields in the Air Force that could routinely require a person to send another person into harm's way.
Most of us never had too much of a problem going into harm's way our self. That's what we had trained for and the challenge was exciting and appropriate. However, sending someone else into harm's way was an awesome responsibility. Again, my thoughts took me back to 12 o'clock High.
A few years ago, I was privileged to pull a tour of duty as Command Chief for the 147th Fighter Wing. The first time I went into the 147th Command Post I was amazed to see a copy of the mug from 12 o'clock High. I was shocked and surprised and could not believe it. I talked to the owner and tried to track down the company that had made it, but I was unable to locate the company and my search was destined to continue for several more years.
Last week, that search finally ended. I watched the show on the Military Channel and was talking to my son about it and mentioned the mug. He knew exactly the one I was talking about, which frankly gave me a burst of fatherly pride that he knew of the show and the mug. He said he had bid on one on EBay. I had tried for years to find one there - with a phenomenal lack of success. This time it worked, number 41 of 500 was available. Three days later, no finger nails left and the permission of a wonderful wife - I won the auction.
I doubt there will ever be a movie about the Squadron Commander taking over a Security Police/Security Forces Squadron in a time of war and dealing with the difficulties of that command - although, that story has been lived out many times by some of our AFSPA members.
I doubt that there will ever be a movie about a NCO dealing with his Security Police/Security Forces Squadron in a time of war and the difficulties of that mission - although, that story has been lived out many times by some of our AFSPA members. I guess we will just have to take the lessons taught in this movie and apply them to our own circumstances - as we have for all of these years.
It was a different war, a different time, a different mission - but sound leadership principles and human nature don't really change. "How much can a man give? We're in a war, a shooting war. We've got to fight. And some of us have got to die." Strangely this remains as appropriate in 2008 as in 1943.
Finally, I want to let you know that over the few days I was biding on the mug I found a site that was selling them. Go to www.918thpx.com if you are interested. I have mine sitting on the mantel. Pete Plumb who runs the site is a fine gentleman and he'll help you get yours. |
America's Presidents
by David G. Bancroft
|
Dear Fellow Patriot, |
|
With Presidents' Day being celebrated on February 18th and 2008 being a Presidential election year, I found myself reflecting on all those who have held this office . . . and all that each President had to deal with at the given time of America's history.
Just imagine having to make the decisions that President Abraham Lincoln did in order to preserve America and the haunting one for President Harry Truman with the dropping of the two atomic bombs. Then there are the unknown difficult decisions that were made by so many of the Presidents, including Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
And regardless if one might disagree with what a President did or even dislikes one for partisan or other reasons . . . they all deserve respect and honor for being the leader of our great nation. That is also the case for our next President even if you vote for the other deserving one.
So, I invite you to read my new poem, America's Presidents, with the hope that it will serve as a reminder of the ones who led America to Her greatness and continue to do so. |
|
May God continue to watch over our valiant, proud troops and beloved America.
Sincerely, |

Commentary by Bob Anderson: When this project we call What Are We Fighting For? first began I knew an integral part of the leadership must be the inclusion of a Chaplain. I went to my dear friend and comrade B. J. Garner, one of the most Godly men I have had the privilege of knowing. At the end of this article you will find his bio, but for now a word from our Chaplain.
Jesus Loves Me
by Chaplain, Lt Col BJ Garner, USAFR
The Love Test
- Are you impatient with other people?
- Are you unkind toward others?
- Are you jealous or can you rejoice in other people's blessings?
- Do you brag? Remember, pride comes before a fall.
- Are you arrogant and have the idea that you are a little better than everyone else?
- Are you rude and do you like to either belittle or ignore certain people?
- Are you selfish by always thinking of me instead of we?
- Do you have a bad temper and is losing it your usual way of life?
We have all been guilty of the above. That is why we need to have a new nature through Christ which strengthens us.
The Bible says, "Love suffereth long (patience), and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, it is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own way, is not easily provoked, and thinketh no evil" I Corinthians 13:4-5.
Remember, "Jesus Loves Me" and, therefore, I should love others.
